Chairman of the Board of Directors
Yitzhak Aharonovich is the Chairman of IMI Systems Ltd. Prior to joining IMI Systems on November 2016 Mr. Aharonovich served as a member of the Israeli Knesset for the party of “Israel Beiteinu” from 2006 to 2015 and was the Minister of Tourism and the Minister of Public Security.
In 1972 he enlisted in the Israel Border Police where he held several positions until his promotion in 1991 to Superintendent and Commander of the Border Police in 1993. Later on, Mr. Aharonovich served as a representative of the Israel Police in the Americas for two years and in 1998 was appointed as Head of Police in the West Bank and later on as the Head of the Southern District police in 2001. During 2002-2004 he served as deputy chief of the Israel Police and in 2004 he left the police to serve as CEO of the “Dan” transportation Company from 2004 to 2005.
In 2006 he was elected to the Knesset on Israel Beiteinu’s list. In March 2007, he was appointed Minister of Tourism, but his tenure ended in January 2008 when the party left the coalition. He retained his seat in the 2009 elections, for which he was placed fourth on the party’s list. Upon the formation of the Netanyahu government on 31 March 2009, he was appointed Minister of Public Security.
During the 2013 elections, Mr. Aharonovich was re-elected and retained his post as Minister of Public Security.
Mr. Aharonovich holds a BA in History from the University of Haifa.
